New Website for Ocean Conservation!

We are really happy with the result! Finally we can let the world know more what we do to bring Awareness into Action. It is not only about our own actions though. With this site we will turn the spotlight on the organizations we think do a very good job for the oceans. Furthermore by showing you how many people out there already make a difference we would like to inspire you how you can do that too. Just browse around, enjoy, and let us know what you think!

SOS Tartarugas on Sal, Cabo Verde

When we contacted Chris Bone from Oceans Watch to see what we could do for his organization, although we were not in the Pacific yet, he got us in touch with Jacquie Cozans from SOS Tartarugas on Sal, one of the Cape Verdes Islands. Jacquie founded this organization in 2008. The Cape Verde Islands are  the world’s third most important nesting area for loggerhead turtles, who were hunted extensively for their meat and eggs. Furthermore they are threatened by removal of sand for building and unregulated tourism development.  In the first year only SOS Tartarugas managed to reduce the amount… Read More

Increasing Involvement

When finding out what exactly Ocean Conservation was to be about, we soon discovered how easy and how much fun it is to support great initiatives. From Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation we learned how easy it is to collect data. Who doesn’t take pictures of a whale when seeing one? Then why not send them to someone with a little more information so that it can be used for further examination. Just by talking to fellow sailors, cruisers and divers we have already motivated more people to collect data too. But that is not the only effect. We notice that… Read More

Oceanswatch is an NGO that is based in New Zealand. Chris Bone, the leader and founder, is unstoppable when it comes to his motto Cruising with a Cause. The cause is helping coastal communities conserve their marine environments, develop sustainable livelihoods and ensure access to primary schools. Doing that he works with sailors, divers and scientists worldwide. Every year new projects are being set up. For instance they teach how to do reef checks and help communities set up new business, like the Coconut Oil Project. In this the women on the Solomon Islands form a cooperative to sell organic coconut oil.… Read More

Sea Shepherd

The third organization we would like to bring to your attention is Sea Shepherd. This is a bit of a different story, because they already have a lot of exposure. Edwin has supported them since the early 80’s. Their focus is mainly on action, and that is exactly why they deserve the support. They are needed out there, because the planet is out of time and waiting for the world leaders makes no sense, since they do not even seem to be able to agree on the fact that we are pushing the limits of the earth’s resources. What is… Read More
